FAI must think outside the box

AT a time when most sectors of the population have good reason to feel sorry for themselves, the Football Association of Ireland and its officials are no exception.

They are not the only ones that made bold and ambitious plans in better times, only to see them challenged by shrunken budgets and diminished public confidence.

Thousands of empty premium seats at Ireland's European Championship qualifying match against Andorra this week told a story that epitomises a multitude of recessionary tales of woe.
