Editorial: Story of love, tragedy and hope should brighten all our hearts

We all need a 'feel-good' story, especially at this time of the year.

Few could match the epic tale of Frank and Michelle O'Mahony from Cork, who for 10 years sought to adopt a little baby from the Philippines. They got the good news that their search was finally over just a week before the howling torrent of the Typhoon Haiyan hit the country.

They had been given final permission to adopt a 16 month old son, Russell, but their plans for a family life together now appeared to lie in ruins.
