SO, ALL set for the Christmas?

It's the rhetorical question most of us will hear today and tomorrow as we busy ourselves doing those last-minute, forgotten errands. Even in good times many Irish businesses lived for the boost in Christmas trade. For the past five years, many traders have only barely managed to survive on the seasonal business boost alone.

Reports from the shops are mixed -- bad weather has curtailed some people's shopping, though retailers are remaining optimistic. But the Irish banks are also a cause of worry.
