Drivers haven't got the message

The news that more than 33,000 drivers were caught by the Garda Siochana last year while using handheld phones is profoundly depressing.





Even worse, some of those drivers were texting rather than merely talking into their phones.

These figures, which were only marginally down on the total recorded for 2010, demonstrate that despite extensive advertising campaigns and the ready availability of cheap hands-free kits, a hardcore of drivers still don't get it: driving while using a handheld mobile phone is extremely dangerous.
