Do not fear - but do be vigilant - during Euros

As Irish sports fans savour the prospect of our soccer team travelling to France for the European Championships, the news from storied Old Trafford of a big game being called off risks dampening our enthusiasm and enjoyment.

France has already suffered more than its share from Isil's indiscriminate murder and mayhem. These brutal killers, who are often prepared to sacrifice their own lives to further their ambitions, are extremely difficult to combat.

Many of us will be reluctant to go to big sporting or other social events like concerts because of the fear of such crazy, murderous attacks. The security authorities are understandably challenged with how to respond.
