Did the leopard change his spots?
Is Enda Kenny a changed man? The former rebels who have accepted front bench jobs bestowed by the Fine Gael leader would appear to think so. In particular, Richard Bruton, the principal challenger, seems to think that Mr Kenny has undergone a remarkable transformation.
Two weeks ago, Mr Bruton was pointing out how hypocritical it would be to serve under a leader in whom he had no confidence. Enda Kenny simply did not have a sufficient grasp on the complexities of the economic crisis, he said then.
The new frontbench spokesman on Enterprise, Jobs and Economic planning, must believe that his leader has benefited from a crash course in the past two weeks because, yesterday, he declared his absolute confidence in Mr Kenny.
