College funding must be decided upon now

These days even relatively simple trades and professions require a masters qualification in a top-flight third-level college. And Ireland is in the midst of a population boom.
We have parked and then ducked tough political decisions on third-level funding for many years now. Further delays risk destroying the fabric of our education and training systems that are central to sustaining economic recovery and competing in a precarious international economic environment.
The expert group, under the able guidance of one of our most eminent labour leaders and conciliators, Peter Cassells, has delivered its report. They have been working since 2014 and have not ducked out of laying things on the line for our political leaders and every citizen in this country.
