Brendan Howlin, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, has apologised to the Referendum Commission for the unjustified and "cack-handed" comments he made during the campaign, which ended with the rejection of the Government's proposals on Oireachtas inquiries.
At the time, these comments brought forth a sharp and well-earned rebuke from the commission.
Mr Howlin had accused its chairman, Dr Bryan McMahon, of causing confusion in the minds of voters.
