The latest results from the Census offer another searing insight into the state of the nation.

This time around, the housing market comes under the microscope and the statistics are quite stark.

The lack of supply in the market and the financial pressure being brought to bear on homebuyers is reflected in the average age at which people buy their first home spiralling to 35 - up by seven years since 2006.
