Struck by depthless sorrow and anguish, the survivors of the Carrickmines fire will struggle to put their lives back together. Such loss goes beyond reason but yesterday Fr Derek Farrell of the Parish of the Travelling People made an appeal to make this terrible tragedy a “watershed moment”
Fr Farrell also issued a challenge to us as a society to attempt to give some meaning to the ten deaths by responding with compassion.
“We need together to make the deaths and the loss involved in this tragedy matter, not just to this family but to all in our society, Traveller and settled. As a lasting, meaningful tribute to those devastated in this tragedy we must build on the immediate gestures of generosity and sympathy.”
