IN defending his actions as finance minister, while admitting that mistakes were made, has the Taoiseach "set the record straight", as he hopes, or has he failed in a crude attempt to pre-empt the findings of forthcoming banking inquiries, as the opposition claims?
By bluntly refusing to rule out a reduction in the state old-age pension for the very poor, has he once again shot himself in the foot?
