Buck on creches stops with Minister for Children

WORKING parents and their families were shocked and appalled at the revelations on television one month ago of poor standards in several creches. The nation – led by the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Minister for Children – spoke of the revelations being "every parent's worst nightmare".

Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald, spoke of how at one stage of her working life she herself had three very young children as she juggled childcare and work.

We know that in the past decade and a half, there had been an effort to develop new childcare services in the country. We heard that much emphasis was put on getting purpose-built facilities in place while training and education standards lagged behind.
