Bringing genius to the table
He was perhaps the finest, most flamboyant snooker star of them all. Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins, who died on Saturday aged 61, was the whirling dervish whose lightning speed at the baize showcased perfectly his unique brand of brilliance and bravado.
He had a glittering career, contrasted sadly with a slide into a lonely death in sheltered housing not far from where he grew up in Belfast.
He was a larger-than-life figure, always controversial, always colourful. His life away from the snooker table was ultimately to be a sad one.
