Battling to secure the euro

SECURING the euro of late has taken on something of the spectacle of attempting to transport frogs in a wheelbarrow. No sooner do we arrive at a consensus than we realise there is no one on-board.

Yesterday some progress was made. Beleaguered German Chancellor Angela Merkel may finally look forward to a night's sleep as a result.

Her parliament has approved the country's contribution to the massive €750bn rescue deal for the eurozone.
