At last there is a glimmer of light for homeowners

THE beleaguered homeowner is long overdue a break. Property prices have been relentlessly falling now for more than five years, but finally evidence has emerged that the worse may be over. The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that prices rose in June, when compared with the same month last year, by 1.2pc.

This was the first annual rise in prices for more than half a decade. The property crash in this country has been the second worst in the world after the one experienced by Japan.

And the price rise was across the country – values went up in Dublin, while apartment prices also rose.
