Fianna Fail and Labour politicians broke ranks last week, so strongly did they feel about a number of major issues facing the country. Even the independents Jackie Healy-Rae and Michael Lowry could not stomach government policy on these mighty issues.
What could have finally sickened our public representatives so?
The fact that the dawn of recession-end was trumpeted when in truth there are very few signs of recovery in the domestic economy? The fact that unemployment figures had risen to a new record level of 452,882 (13.4 per cent)?
