A simple phone call about Aleppo can elevate Trump

There are probably a number of pressing issues for president-elect Donald Trump to busy himself with over coming days; but none carries more moral force than the agony of Aleppo's children.

Were he to pick up the phone and ask President Putin to use his influence on Syria's President Assad to call a halt to the appalling suffering, he would demonstrate the efficacy of soft-power, and reveal himself an international statesman, at a stroke.

The incessant bombardment has degraded Aleppo's remaining hospitals - on the rebel-held side - to the extent that they can no longer provide care.
