A changing landscape
EVENTS which will surely define the sort of country in which we will live next year are coming thick and fast. Within the past couple of days, the resignation of Dr Jim McDaid shortened the odds on an early general election.
And the High Court's ruling that there has been an unreasonable delay in moving the writ for the Donegal South West by-election is an embarrassing reminder to the Taoiseach that he will not always be allowed to rule the country "the way he wants", as he once insisted during an angry exchange in the Dail.
Mr Cowen now has no choice but to comply when the writ for the by-election is moved in the Dail today.
