A bleak future lies ahead for banking sector

For anyone working in the financial services sector, 2012 is starting off where 2011 ended, with even more job losses being announced yesterday.
Ulster Bank, the third-largest bank in the Republic, is shedding 950 jobs, of which 600 will go in the Republic.
The Ulster Bank job losses come after last October's announcement of up to 1,250 redundancies at insurance company Aviva while AIB is expected to reveal plans to cut 2,000 jobs as soon as it can agree the employee redundancy terms with the Government.
