To lose one column is unfortunate but to lose two…well, Oscar Wilde comes to mind.
Such is the fate of media commentator Roy Greenslade, who was dropped by the Evening Standard last year and is now to stop writing his dreary media blog for The Guardian after more than 10 years. Dominic Ponsford of Press Gazette reports that "The Guardian has scaled back its media coverage in recent years, in common with other national newspapers, as it has sought to curb its losses".
Greenslade, who commutes between his home in Donegal and London, was accused in 2015 of "pathetic self-indulgence" by commentator Peter Oborne, but remains Sinn Fein's favourite pontificator on media matters. He is to continue writing for The Guardian on a less-regular basis and increase his teaching.
