A common trait among new TDs, and indeed many experienced parliamentarians, is an inability to speak their mind publicly.
Most would rather read the weekly briefing notes emailed to their inboxes from party headquarters and repeat the political messaging ad nauseam when questioned on the issues of the day.
They prefer to stick to script, toe the party line and avoid upsetting the officer classes over fear their careers might not progress.
