This game never ceases to amaze. On Tuesday, I said Connacht's future had never looked so good, but then came the shock announcement that the man central to their success is to step down at the end of this season.

Clearly, head coach Eric Elwood has his own reasons for calling it a day, but from a purely rugby perspective his decision came as a genuine disappointment.

If a coach can organise, communicate and motivate, then the chances are fairly good that he will make a fair fist of it.
