Robert Troy: Parents must get help to make choices that best suit their families
The increased focus on issues surrounding childcare in recent days - albeit only the Government's latest kite-flying experiment - has at least brought welcome attention to this crisis.
Since taking up my role as Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Children, I have relentlessly propelled this issue in the Dáil. My latest childcare policy strategy is the end product of much work, including a discussion paper on early childhood education, two Fianna Fáil private members' motions on childcare, a pre-budget submission and consultations with parents and the early childhood sector.
Even now, only six months before a general election, Fianna Fáil is still the only party to have brought forward a comprehensive, fully-costed policy proposal which sets out a five-year plan to support accessible, flexible and affordable childcare in Ireland.
