President Higgins is just one of many world leaders pushing for real progress on tackling climate change.

Earlier this year, Pope Francis warned that our lifestyles were turning the world into an "immense pile to filth", while UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has said the world's nations must agree to reduce emissions to avoid certain catastrophe.

Leaders of 195 nations will gather in Paris next December for the so-called Conference of the Parties (COP), where it is expected a deal will be struck.
