Now, in my book, if you have to get your head kicked in for your job -- and that's basically what being a professional rugby player is all about -- then you'd be smart to choose the right location.
Can anyone seriously suggest there are better places in Europe than either Biarritz, on the Basque coast in south west France, or Toulouse, in the Haute- Garonne? OK, Treviso, 25 minutes up the railway line from Venice, takes a bit of beating. But for sheer rugby passion in a community besotted by the game, Biarritz and Toulouse would be close to the top of anyone's chart.
For those thousands of Leinster and Munster fans who have already journeyed to this part of the world, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You, like me, have been seduced by these two regions and their beauty, their culture and varied appeal. Or, if you're going this weekend for either of the Heineken semi-finals, boy, are you in for a treat.
