Peter Bills: French game held back by 'useless' refs

Even disregarding for a moment the quality of their cassoulet, jambon cru and such like, you have to say that all seems remarkably well right now in the firmament of French rugby.
The Heineken Cup semi-finals this weekend will feature two French teams -- Toulouse, who meet Leinster in Dublin, and Perpignan who play Northampton in that renowned, traditional rugby stronghold of, er, Milton Keynes.
Whatever the outcome of those ties, there is much in the French game to be enthusiastic about. At many clubs, it is becoming clear that traditional grounds cannot accommodate the volume of supporters wishing to attend games.
