Some you can categorise as scoundrels, rogues. Certain others can be condemned as cheats. Sadly, there have been plenty who have sullied the name of their sport.

The South African-born England prop forward Matt Stevens was caught taking drugs and banned for two years while his former Bath team-mate Michael Lipman bravely ran away from his club and ended up in Australia after refusing to submit to a drug test.

In France, former Beziers forward Michel Palmie hurt an opponent so badly he partially lost the sight of an eye.
