The virtual demise of the telephone box is not surprising, in that when they were the only means of communications they rarely worked.

Ironically now that nobody needs them they work perfectly.

Of course you cannot blame the P&T, its successor Telecom Éireann or indeed Eircom for that. The blame lay with the self-destructive nature of Irish people.
