The 200th anniversary of Daniel O’Connell’s violent duel with Dublin City Council representative John Norcott d’Esterre was re-enacted in Glasnevin Cemetery over the weekend.

The pistol fight was played out in between tombstones and ended with d’Esterre falling to the ground, clutching what would turn out to be a fatal injury.

The dramatic finale had a good deal of gunfire, but some jaded onlookers were unimpressed with the production values.
