Medb Ruane: Is Lady Gaga, the goddess of too much, really any more than just a 'bitch in a dress'?

Down and dirty did it for Lady Gaga when she scooped eight VMAs at Sunday's Video Music Awards. Ooh la la, the girl was wearing a frock made of slim-sliced meat. Cher paid homage. Courtney Love talked up her own cover of Gaga's 'Bad Romance.' But Gaga was nervous.
The dress was Manhattan-style-carpaccio-meets-Francis-Bacon, with shoes and underwear to match. "I'm not a piece of meat!" Gaga announced. She rushed off to give Ellen DeGeneres the inside story, on TV, and to chat about what got her over her nerves.
"I can't let my fans down tonight," Gaga's little girl voice said she told herself, "cos then I'm just another bitch in a dress. So much of what I stand for is about working hard and being yourself and busting your ass."
