Kate Rowan: What makes a rugby player the flavour of the week?
IMAGINE over 80,000 fans in Croke Park cheering on Ireland at home in the Rugby World Cup in 2027 or even sooner in 2023.
This is becoming more of a reality with the GAA Congress voting to back last summer’s decision by the Central Council to make available a number of its grounds to facilitate a bid by the IRFU to host either the 2023 or 2027 tournament.
The next step is for the two sporting bodies to enter discussions into more distinct requirements for the proposal. While we wait for plans to take shape, let’s recommence dreaming – who would be starting for Ireland in the 2023 World Cup in venues such as Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork or Killarney’s Fitzgerald Stadium?
