Kate Rowan: Wales and Ireland - a total eclipse of rugby hearts
IN THE shade of the home of Irish rugby, the Aviva Stadium, there is a billboard encouraging passers by to “Visit Wales” with the tagline “Wales – love our coast”.
In the aftermath of Ireland beating Wales in the opening round of the Six Nations, it evoked feelings of sympathy towards our Celtic cousins.
After that match, the two sides took diverging paths - one leading towards Championship glory and the other to an unprecedented injury crisis and a miserable fifth place. It is as if our neighbours are unintentionally mocking us; “Wales: Love our three Grand Slams and one Championship in eight years.”
