On March 8, the ESRI published a report entitled 'Housing and Ireland's Older Population'. The report has been misunderstood in some of the coverage that followed.

As can happen in these situations, this meant the actual report got overlooked.

The main point that I would like to make here is that the authors, Dr Elish Kelly and I, did not make a proposal that older people should be incentivised to sell their homes and to move to smaller dwellings, with the goal of freeing up larger homes for younger families.
