In Ireland, it's impossible not to know when an election is under way. Lamp posts are smothered in posters; the roadsides are festooned with reminders of the coming poll.
In Britain right now, it's hard to tell that there's an election in four days' time at all. There are a few placards in private gardens, the occasional leaflet dropping through doors, but that's about it.
Nor is this because signposting is illegal. It isn't.
