Cathriona's tragedy is compounded by looming legal dispute

In life, she was "a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled", according to her former partner, the actor Jim Carrey.

But in death, Cathriona White (30), a gentle girl who battled depression, has become a football in a sordid Hollywood battle over reputation, scandal - and, of course, money.

Her family in Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, who were devastated by the death of the make-up artist who followed her dreams by moving to the US in 2009, have this week been plunged into a spiralling nightmare.
