Aidan Coughlan: Are we saying goodbye to Bebo ... the site that taught a generation how to use the internet?

LET'S be honest: those of us who used Bebo in the past have either deleted their accounts or forgotten their passwords by now.

But that didn’t take away from the tinge of sadness that accompanied this morning’s brief scare, when site went down with explanation and an unverified paragraph on the site’s Wikipedia entry said that it had ceased its existence.

Thankfully – for those who care – it’s due to resume its operations later on today. But it was a good excuse to indulge in some nostalgia, and hark back to the days when we learned that ‘social networking’ was not just something you did at black-tie events.
