Adele is not alone in having doubts about being a mother

Admitting that a house full of children can be a drain on your freedom and happiness really is the last taboo

There's no disgrace these days in celebrity misery. If anything, it's become a tool of marketing, guaranteeing instant column inches.

There are some things, though, that are still genuinely hard to admit, so singer Adele deserves some credit for publicly confessing to doubts about the wisdom of her decision to have children.

"All my friends and I felt pressurised into having kids because that's what adults do," she told Vanity Fair last week. "I love my son more than anything, but on a daily basis, if I have a minute or two, I wish I could do whatever the f*** I wanted, whenever I want."
