THE news that Revenue has raised more money than expected from the property tax raises the question once again of how honest Irish people are.

While much of our society seems to be based on the notion we are a dishonest lot, the evidence from the new tax and many other aspects of Irish life suggests the opposite.

Anybody who has witnessed a spot check on Dublin's tram system will know the vast majority of passengers buy tickets, despite the lack of regular conductors.
