Why Oireachtas inquiry is music to bankers' ears

Next year's trials of financial executives will be thwarted by years of posturing and prejudicial political comments, writes Shane Ross

What a wonderful week for the bankers. Champagne corks are popping in College Green and Ballsbridge. The Oireachtas banking inquiry is going ahead.

Manna from heaven. Recent rumours that the Government had seen the folly of pursuing the probe – at this time – were scotched. Despite warnings of the dangers, last Wednesday Enda Kenny stubbornly gave the banking inquiry his blessing.

A possible escape route has been opened for any culprits in the banking scandal. No less a person than the Taoiseach has created a vehicle that could carry them to freedom.
