Martina Devlin: We've got to look beyond politics for next President
IT'S high time we focused some attention on the presidency. Mary McAleese's charismatic performance -- not only last week but throughout her years in office -- shows the value of choosing the right candidate.
In a matter of months, her second term will draw to a close and a replacement will be sworn in. Already a number of contenders are setting out their stalls.
But the electorate can only vote for those who put themselves before the people, and the political parties making nominations remain biased towards job-seekers from a political background.
