AS PINK Floyd sang: "Careful with that axe, Eugene." Clearly, in a busted economy the axe has to fall -- but necks bared to the blade must be chosen with care.
And scrapping public swimming pools is not a discriminating way to save money. It's clumsy and unenlightened.
Upgrade them, open them for longer hours, reduce the admission fee or increase it, depending on which will generate more revenue -- but don't drain the pool and empty the changing rooms.
