The creator of 'The Scarlet Letter' was a talented writer, but he was peddling a Utopian concept here. Did the minimum wage come about naturally? Or universal suffrage?
Advances are made in society by proactive means -- by campaigners highlighting injustices and crusading against them. Passivity did not end slavery in the 19th century, just as it is not an agent for change today.
