RTÉ's problems extend far beyond poor Bosco

Poor little Bosco must have been spinning in his bosca mór this week as the announcement came billowing from Montrose that RTÉ had taken the decision to outsource its young people's programming to the independent sector.

As indigent RTÉ grapples with an increasingly challenging financial environment, unsuspecting staff were informed that all TV programmes produced for young children and teenagers were to be hived off.

Insider accounts conjured up images of pigtailed presenters clad in dungarees snivelling into their Kleenex tissues as men in black suits from management told them to pick up their toy collection and go play somewhere else. One can only imagine the dummy spitting that went on behind the scenes.
