Mary Lou's probing on homeless has Enda running for cover
THERE are green shoots peeping out from beneath the smoking rubble of the recession, as the Coalition likes to keep reminding us (though without using the actual words). For instance, house prices are rising alarmingly like Carrie's undead hand springing from her grave.
Around the capital city, housing prices have increased by 15pc over the past 12 months, and are beginning to trend upwards outside Dublin too. But other numbers relating to property are rising too. And these have to do with the people who have no property at all, no roof of their own to give shelter as winter closes in.
According to figures released yesterday by charity organisation Focus Ireland, the amount of people facing homelessness has increased by 18pc. In Dublin, the number of homeless families recently doubled from eight to 16 every month, affecting nearly 200 children.
