Germans take a licking in the Dail

A CHEEKY tweet went up from Labour's Kevin Humphreys on Wednesday, despite the dispiriting prospect of having to swap the blazing sunshine for a windowless room in Leinster House where the Oireachtas Finance Committee were meeting some Eurocrats.
The Dublin Bay South deputy posted a picture of a chocolate something in a box, which on closer inspection turned out to be an edible replica of the German parliament in Berlin.
"A lovely chocolate model of the Bundestag from the visiting German delegation. Won't last long in this heat," he reckoned.
Shamefully, not one member of the Irish side thought to nip around the corner into the Members' Bar where our own version of political goodies are available – nice bottles of red and wine Houses of the Oireachtas wine.
But Kevin was unperturbed. "They left with a sweet taste in their mouths," he explained.
Frau Merkel would probably approve of such thrift.
