John Drennan: Wild Fine Gael revellers ripped the doors off Dail Bar
Leinster House has seen many strange scenes in its time. No one, however, could have predicted that such would be the intensity of the celebrations amongst the eminently respectable Fine Gael supporters that the door to the Dail bar would be 'taken off the hinges'.
Official accounts of the day claimed it was a very respectable affair that resembled "a quiet country wedding''.
Such, though, was the joy amongst the Fine Gael supporters, who had won their first election since 1982, that the sturdy door of the visitors' bar simply could not take the strain.
