John Drennan: We're defeated: all our energy has been sapped

Morgan Kelly, our latest doom-laden economist of choice, recently warned that, like poor Blanche du Bois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Ireland is now dependent on "the kindness of strangers".
Since then, unfortunately, our position has deteriorated so much so that, during the Budget, our only succour was provided by the wit and wisdom of a Michael Noonan.
But though his denunciation of this "puppet" Budget captured the mood of the hour, the rhetoric was compromised by one awful reality.
