THE victory of Sinn Fein's Donegal by-election candidate means Brian Cowen may face a Sinn Fein-led motion of no confidence before Christmas.
In the aftermath of Pearse Doherty's victory, negotiations are believed to be imminent over the possibility of creating a technical alliance between Sinn Fein and two Independent deputies, who could then introduce legislation or put forward motions of no confidence in the Government.
Meanwhile, in the wake of Doherty's victory, despairing Fianna Fail TDs are far more concerned about the consequences of the SF victory for their own survival.
