A group of independent senators consisting of former Olympic athlete Eamonn Coghlan, Katherine Zappone, Julia van Turnhout, Fiach MacConghail and Marie Louise O'Donnell are poised to play a critical role in getting a presidential nomination for senator David Norris.
A recent Sunday Independent/Quantum Research opinion poll revealed Mr Norris had just under three times as much support as his closest rivals when it came to the public's views on who should be our next President.
But the openly gay candidate for the Presidency has only secured the support of Fingal County Council -- and last week Galway County Council refused to even allow him to address them.
