John Drennan: No stopping FF slide down slippery slope
THE Government is a bit like a cat trying to climb a glacier these days. No matter how desperately it digs its claws in, it's on the slide and no amount of unpleasant screeching noises by Noel Dempsey or Florence Nightmare in Health can stop it.
Nothing epitomised the odd state of affairs within the Dail more than the unwonted sympathy which our Health Minister received over the paint incident. The Sketch did try to join in but in this era of 'hard choices', we decided to restrict our concern to those sick children who will spend nights crying in pain because of Ms Harney's ruthless decisions to prioritise the interests of the powerful bureaucrat over the unimportant child.
Though we are cutting back on the sympathy budget, you would almost feel sorry for a pallid-faced Government which is in an even worse state than the mariner caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
